That is correct, VF-41 engaged Lybian fighters in the Gulf of Sidra first after days of close encounters with many Lybian fighters with no shots fired. But on August 19 1981 2 Su Fitters fired the first shot and missed and the Black Aces took out both enemy aircrafts. The second incedent happened on January 4 1989 with the VF-32 Swordsmen call sign Gypies. This was my med deployment and remember it well. As like the first the Gypies took no chances on getting fired on ROE was if enemy showed Hostility , engage and remove. 2 Migs were

What was your job at the time? My Ol'Man was a sonotech in the Navy at the time. But I will say this... there's no replacing the F-14...
